FOTD #7

Hey! I'm doing some photo shoots soon to get professional shots to start my portfolio, so I've been trying to come up with looks to use. I did this yesterday, contouring and everything! You know how rarely I post FOTD shots, never mind how rarely I post contoured ones. There's an eye closeup at the end too. Tell me what you think, I'd love some feedback!

Nail Art #3 - Striped Ombre Dotticure

Hey! I spent all weekend chilling out and not wearing makeup, but while I chilled I watched some nail art videos on Youtube. Today I did a manicure that I saw on PackAPunchPolish's channel, I thought it was really cool and I had to try it out. It's pretty messy because I've only used dotting tools once and I'd never used striping tape before. I like how it came out anyway! I didn't have a creme white polish so I used a pearl white instead but I think it looks alright. Here are some photos and a product list.

Review with Look - Sleek Supreme

This is the second part of the Sleek 'Shangri'la' collection review. The 'Shangri'la' collection is priced at €25, and also contains the 'Respect' palette and two 'Truley Mattely Deeply' lip colours. The limited edition 'Supreme' palette is also available alone at the price of €10. This is what it looks like:

Like the 'Respect' palette, the 'Supreme' palette also has fancy gold writing on the front. The shadows in this palette have quite a different colour scheme to its sister palette.

As you can see there are a good few shades of blue in here, along with a number of green and neutral tones. The shades that stand out most to me are the darkest blue and the dark yellow. Here are some swatches:

Blue Suede, R&B, Bronx Black, P-Funk, Grand Master Flash, Wah Wah White

LA Belle Blue, Smokey Robinson, Al Green, Delfonic, Commodores Cream, Shangrilas Lemon
The top row has strong, bright, bold colours, while the bottom row has some lighter colours, with some pastel shades. They're mainly matte and satin shadows, with just one shimmery shade, 'Wah Wah White'. The shadows are very soft, and apply nicely. Pale shadows look so weak swatched on my skin. I'm sorry, they just blend in well. The barely visible 'Smokey Robinson' is a nice pale matte grey, in case you were wondering. 'Wah Wah White' is whiter than it looks in this picture too. Here's the look I created:

It makes me think of Wolverine! I photographed my left eye for a change. Please excuse the scar. Actually it's because I messed up the liner on my right eye and then the bulb blew on my No 7 illuminating mirror, making it too dark to see what I was doing. This one looked better anyway. For this cut crease look, I defined above the crease with Urban Decay's 'Mainline' pencil from the 24/7 Glide-On Smoked pencil set. I smudged that out and added 'R&B' just above it. I blended this up towards the brow with 'LA Belle Blue'. I also used 'Mainline' on the waterline. On the upper and lower lid I placed 'Grand Master Flash', and highlighted the brow bone and inner corner with 'Wah Wah White'. I smudged Urban Decay's 'Zero' pencil along the outer part of the lower lid. I finished the look by lining the upper lid, adding mascara and filling in the eyebrow.
I like this palette, it's great. As much as I liked the 'Respect' palette, I prefer this one. I can see myself using this one more, but we'll see what happens! Using both palettes together is going to be good too. I'll leave you with more pictures and a product list.

Hello! Viola at Killer Colours is doing a contest, you can read more about it here: http://rodeo.net/killercolours/2012/11/03/contest-neutral-or-bright-win-prices-from-maddstyle-cosmetics/. There are two categories, neutral and bright. Four Maddstyle eyeshadows are the prize for each category. I did a colourful look for the bright category that I might enter! I'd like to do a few more different looks for each and choose the best. This is what I came up with yesterday. What do you think?

I might consider the Bubbles look I did recently as an entry too, but I think this one is better. Here's some pictures of the eye makeup.

Another Face #1

Hey everyone!
Today I got back from Galway, I went up there for my sister Laura's university graduation ceremony. She received a BA in Arts from NUIG :) I am very proud of her and her giant brain!
She wore a beautiful dress with a purple, green and teal butterflies and flowers on it. Here's a nice picture of her with our mother and step-father.
Paul, Laura, Mam

Here's a closeup of her heels, they are sooo cute!

They're by Ruby Shoo. The prettiness almost justifies the pain!
I only did her eye makeup for her, she'd already done her foundation that morning. She wanted her makeup to involve colour that goes with her dress, but not so much that she would look silly. Nobody trusts me with makeup, they always ask me not to make them look like a clown. I would never! I get a bit adventurous on my own face, but there's a time and a place. Here's her finished face:
So pretty!
I had creative control in this situation, but I only actually applied the eyeshadow and defined the eyebrows. This was a daytime ceremony so I wanted to keep the eye makeup relatively natural, with just a touch of colour as she requested it to coordinate with the dress. I wanted it to be soft and pretty. Here's a closeup of her eye makeup:

I didn't line the top lid because she normally doesn't. Since she doesn't normally wear much eye makeup she might have thought it a bit much. I filled in her eyebrows a little with the paler shadow in the Essence Eyebrow Stylist Set. She doesn't normally fill in her brows and I didn't want to scare her, so I just lightly filled them to add more definition to her eye area. What makeup looks 'normal' to me would be quite dramatic for her, so I tried to keep that in mind! I was very proud of my work on Laura. I think the makeup really added to her outfit and enhanced her natural prettiness so much. She said that she liked the look and had at least one compliment that I know about :)

In other news; I broke my nail polish ban while I was in Galway and it's all Nikki Lou's fault for her review of the Models Own Winter Wonderland collection here: http://nikkiloub.blogspot.ie/2012/10/models-own-wonderland-collection.html
I really needed Jack Frost. I didn't like the rest enough to buy them, but I had to get Jack Frost so I can layer it over black like that, it looks fantastic. Expect it in a nails of the week post soon! I also bought three other polishes..
Also, my wonderful husband Jim returned home last night from Arizona where he was visiting family, and he brought me gifts! I'll feature them in tomorrow's post :D
See you soon!

This Week's Nails #2 - Vivid Violet

Hello there! ~_^

This week I'm wearing No7's Stay Perfect polish in Vivid Violet. It's a beautiful colour, one of the best purples I own! I'm not sure what the exact price was, since it was a birthday gift from my little brother (he's such a sweetie!). On the Boots UK site the price is £5.50, which is about €7. If it's much different here in Ireland I'll be sure to let you know!

This week I sucked especially hard at application. Deeply sorry, but sometimes I just have an off day! Any mess or bumps are completely my own fault, not that of the polish.
I applied it Sunday night, photographed on Monday evening, and it truly has 'stayed perfect' so far up until today (Wednesday). It still looks exactly as it did the day I applied it. The brush is nice and thick, too. Not as thick as the Essence brush in the polish from last week so it doesn't give quite as much coverage in one stroke, but it's not far off!
This No7 polish is a really nice break from the norm for me. I mostly own Essence ones since I'm often quite broke and they're the best quality low cost polish that I've found. I think I'll try a wider variety of brands from now on!
